The greatest wealth is health
If the answer is YES to any of these, then chances are, I have been where you are NOW !
Ten years ago, I was fatigued during my second trimester of my pregnancy with my first son to the point I could almost not function. Luckily, by miracle I met a drug rep call Stephen Palmer who reminded me about nutrition and health and put me in touch with the right people who used naturopathic approaches. I spent endless hours during my pregnancy researching on nutrition to improve my health and that of my baby. The result was a vibrant energetic pregnancy and a healthy baby who, til today (10 yrs later) has hardly ever been ill and only set foot into the GP clinics once for a minor skin impetigo infection. I recall a colleague at work asking me ' Is it safe what you are doing?'. She saw my energy levels go through the roof and thought I was taking something dangerous to give me energy? It was basically naturopathic nutrition principles of living - remove toxins, increase nutrition intake, positive thinking, proper hydration.
I became a Pharmacist because I wanted to help people improve their health. I was lucky to be mentored by many excellent pharmacists who also believed in natural medicine. One day, at a Pharmacy in Perth, Australia, my tutor pulled out a whole drawer full of supplements. I was wondering what on earth is he doing with all this. He looked at me and said 'Ileana, this is what I take. You're probably wondering why? You are too young and scientific. You'll figure it out one day'. Within many of these pharmacies we had rows and rows of natural supplements and Naturopaths who worked alongside us. So earlier on in my career, I was very open to holistic approaches. Every antibiotic scripts we handed out would be accompanied with the advice 'take your probiotics and b vitamins'.
The longer I practiced as a Pharmacist, the more I saw the repeated patterns of patients coming in with the same symptoms and similar root causes. For example, if I hand out a steroid cream for eczema, I have a suspicion this patient may also suffer from gut symptoms (bloating, gas, indigestion....), allergies and possibly asthma. In naturopathic medicine, these are all linked and one imbalance affects the other in a chain reaction, like a domino effect. Triggers for modern day illnesses may involve a range of food, diet, environmental and emotional triggers therefore it’s not enough just to use drugs solely but to incorporate a holistic approach which is tailored to each individual based on their own mental, physical and emotional status.
So where are you at in your health and wellness journey?
Are you ready to make serious changes which can generate serious results?
If you are, then the first thing you need to do is shift your mindset to one of 'I can't ' to one of 'I can ! '
Even if you have tried lots of natural approaches or taken loads of drugs and had many medical interventions (surgeries etc), it is still NOT TOO LATE to start nourishing and healing your body. Your cells constantly die and new cells are formed regularly. Your nutritional input and epigenetics can help control how these new cells form. As our parents say, you are what you eat. Nowadays, that can be interpreted as ' YOU ARE WHAT YOU ATE, ATE...or YOU ARE WHAT YOU ABSORB'
Our focus is to make 20% of the changes that can generate 80% of the results.
In 2013 after the birth of my son, I enrolled into a 3 year nutrition diploma through the renowned London College of Naturopathic Medicines (CNM). Since then, I have work closely with many experienced therapists within the industry such as herbalists, naturopaths, homeopaths, acupuncturists, osteopaths and colonic hydrotherapists.
As a pharmacist, I have over 17 years of experience in NHS and private hospitals. I have worked within GP surgeries in medicines optimisation roles. I have 13 years of experience in senior roles as a Clinical Cancer Specialist Pharmacist. I have worked in many NHS hospitals covering the following clinical areas of medicine:
Psychiatry, general medicine, surgery, cardiology, gastroenterology, respiratory medicines, care of the ederly, paediatrics, Obs and Gynae, Eye, Vascular.
What's my philosophy for healing?
Lets be clear on this. I am NOT anti-conventional medicine but I am PRO medicines that are SAFE, COST-EFFECTIVE and gets to the ROOT of the problem(s). I believe the body is capable of healing itself if you can figure out what it needs and support it. The number one law in healing is 'DO NO HARM' and this applies to both conventional and natural medicines. It's just so happens that MOST natural compounds come into this category. However, not all natural compounds are affordable, effective nor safe ! Equally, not all drugs are harmful and ineffective. We have seen antibiotics and adrenaline injections saving lives, Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) having incredible results in auto-immune conditions and much more. Diet, Nutrition, Emotional, Spiritual and Environmental factors are key areas to examine when it comes to naturopathic approaches to healing.
