This has got to be my favourite Chai Latte so far. If you love spices then you're going to love this ! Slippery elm forms a nice gelatinous film which helps soothe and heal the gut and has been used even in animals. On its own it might not be the most pleasant tasting thing you drink but in this recipe, it's amazing. Given that Slippery Elm contains good levels of soluble and insoluble fibre, and is only partially digested, it will have a valuable role as a prebiotic (foods that feed the probiotics or good bacterias). Turmeric is anti-inflammatory, supports the gut and liver and of course has anti-cancer properties as seen in numerous clinical studies. The cinnamon and cardamon is warming and has wonderful effects on blood sugar balancing. It's lovely to drink all year round as you can make it cold or hot.
Prep time & cooking time (5 minutes)
2 teaspoons of slippery elm powder
1 cup of almond milk (or oat/hemp)
1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
3-4 cardamon pods
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla essence
1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
Put everything (except the cardamon pods) into a nutri-bullet or blender and blend for a few seconds. Pour the liquid out into a small saucepan and heat it up gently (medium heat or lower). Add the cardamon pods. If the component separate (which can occur on very high heat) just stir the mixture. When the the mixture is warm..pour it out and voila ! DONE ! ENJOY !
